This kid Tayyib Ali is THE bizzness. This is the promo video for his new mixtape Eighteen set to hit the streets September 13th. When it comes to rappers from Philly, I’m usually talking minor league ball, but this dude’s making it to the rap majors in my book. At only 18, Tayyib has a very chill, laidback flow that you just can’t help but vibe to. The video was directed by J-KiLL and has a very downtown Manhattan feel. Check out Tayyib on Twitter and look out for the new mixtape to drop right here.
Picture the deep soulful voice of Tank, mixed with the sweet-talkin’ swag of Trey Songz. Extend your hand, and meet Aion Clarke. I can’t lie, the main reason I gave this mixtape a listen was because I saw that Claude Kelly had a huge presence in this dude’s work. Ya’ll may not know Claude Kelly by face, but you sure as hell know his lyrics because he’s penned songs for almost every major artist out today. Aion Clarke definitely has the potential to hold his own with the Ushers, the Treys and the Breezys (yeah I said it, do something). I see you Karla.
So I’ve been going back and forth on whether I should post this dude or not, but hey, why the ef not!? J.R. Aquino was raised in Alaska but now lives in Vegas and I gotta say this kid has one of the best voices that I’ve ever heard. He reminds me a lot of an R&B sounding Bruno Mars. It’s refreshing to come across a singer who has true talent and isn’t just a manufactured product of the record label. Beware! This dude has the potential to be the next artist smothering the radio if he plays his cards right. Most definitely check out homeboy’s YouTube channel.
The video above his the original, acoustic version of his single, which will be released on iTunes on August 3rd. The lyrics to the song are mad corny, but the hook is so infectious and so catchy that if you sing this to a girl she will forgive you for no matter what it is that you did or whatever you two yelled at each other about….hopefully. When this dude blows up, just remember where you heard him first. Ah Ha!! I see you J.R.! After the jump check out Aquino doing his remix thing on Travie and Bruno’s “Billionaire” and Mike Posner’s “Cooler Than Me”. Thoughts??????
I’m a music lover. ALL genres. Anything goes. For me, I mostly rock with Hip-Hop/R&B but my two co-workers happen to be LES and Brooklyn hipsters (shouts), so I am exposed to much more, which I’ve grown to LOVE. This is definitely a band that is about to make a big splash on the scene, and they hail from none other than the BK. They prove that Jay-Z and Williamsburg (joke) aren’t the only good things to come out of Brooklyn. The Drums recently released their self-titled debut album on Downtown Records and the best way I can describe their sound is “hipster surfer rock”. The same way that Usher is the next MJ, The Drums are the next Beach Boys. Yeah I said it.
So when you turn on Z100 and you hear The Drums, just remember where you heard it first (and I’ll remember where I heard it first) and if you like what you hear go hit up The Drums’ MySpace.
