Mixtape Game: Fabolous – The S.O.U.L Tape

Sunday, April 24th, 2011

By george, the forgotten Jackson (yes, he’s a Jackson) dropped his newest tape this past Thursday and I must say, THE KID IS BACK. I’ve always fucked with Fab even when he went through his lame days, because face it, how many times can one tolerate “It’s Loso in case you aint know-so?” But Fabo spazzed on The S.O.U.L Tape, hitting us with his classic metaphorical wordplay, but this time he verbally dances over laid back, hard-hitting beats, which almost comes off as a re-inventing of his career.

Mixtape Game: Phreshy Duzit – Brave New World

Saturday, April 16th, 2011

My homie Phreshy Duzit put his Atlantic debut EP to the side to work on something really, really dope. Teaming up with his producer Nylez, the two created something that I didn’t even see coming. This is totally different from anything I’ve heard thus far and am pleasantly surprised. When he and I kicked it the other night, he told me that he was creating his own identity and that Brave New World was gonna be something that defined him. The production is tough and Phresh kills it with a few stinging one-liners. And I’m not just saying that because he’s the homie. Definitely support the kid and check out his mixtape.

Mixtape Game: Donnis – Southern Lights

Friday, April 15th, 2011

Shouts to the ATL Brave himself for holding it down at The Bunker Room last night. And thanks again for the Jose Cuervo open bar that got ya boy feelin’ nice. Just as I expected, Southern Lights is a step in the right direction towards Diary Of An ATL Brave, but not fully there yet. Here’s to hoping things keep going up for Donnis.

Shouts to Stadium Dan!

Mixtape Game: The Weeknd – House Of Balloons

Sunday, March 20th, 2011

YES. YES. YES. Now, although it isn’t much more than the tunes we’ve already heard from The Weeknd, it’s nice to see a complete project. Ya know, the kind with a tracklisting and artwork. Yeah, those. Be prepared for either a major flop or a major bidding war over these dudes.

Shouts to OVO.

Mixtape Game: Frank Ocean – Nostalgia, Ultra

Sunday, March 13th, 2011

YO! When I say that this shit is on that next level, I really mean it. Frank Ocean is 1/8th of the hip-hop, indie group Odd Future. While, I totally haven’t given Odd Future a chance yet, I’ve been spending an unhealthy amount of time with lead singer, Frank Ocean’s, new mixtape Nostalgia, Ultra. He has the voice and smooth swag of Ryan Leslie, while crooning over beats that you would hear in bars in Brooklyn hipster bars. I give this one two thumbs up. Follow Frank Ocean’s every move on Twitter.

1. Street Fighter
2. Strawberry Swing
3. Novacane
4. We All Try
5. Bitches Talkin’
6. Songs for Women
7. Lovecrimes
8. Goldeneye
9. There Will Be Tears
10. Swim Good
11. Dust
12. American Wedding
13. Soul Calibur
14. Nature Feels

Mixtape Game: Mac Miller – Best Day Ever

Sunday, March 13th, 2011

Yeah yeah, I’ve been gone for a minute. The busyness of the week on top of being sick set back the 100 game for a minute, but let’s try and play catch up, whaddaya say? So as you know, here at KOH we are fans of artists who are unique and are making GENUINE music and from the jump, I’ve been on #TeamThumbsUp. On Thursday, I trekked out in the monsoon that was the weather in NYC and met the homie BB at the Highline to see Mac Miller make his return to NYC.

After having to have Mac’s manager come grab me because those clowns at Highline don’t have their act together, (yeah, I just had to stunt for a second) we grabbed drinks, and headed up to the balcony to catch the show. Now, I don’t want to dwell on this or sound old, or sound ridiculous for thinking I sound old at 22, but when I say that this crowd was nothing like I’ve really ever seen, I’M NOT JOKING. The average age was 17 years old, and I’ve never seen more gross making out and thrusting and gyrating in my life. I then realized that these kids were just happy to be away from their parents and to be touching each other. Hell, these kids were grindin’ on each other when there was no music even playing.

Below, make sure you download Mac’s Best Day Ever, and after the jump check out the tracklisting and read the rest of my rant.

Mixtape Game: Wiz Khalifa – Cabin Fever

Sunday, February 20th, 2011

Well looksie here. Cameron is getting a bit reckless while gracing the covers of The Source, VIBE, and The Fader and decided to drop off some new music. This nine song mixtape was produced by Lex Luger (which I’m sure you’ll be able to tell after the first three songs) and features collaborations with Big Sean, Chevy Woods, and Trae Tha Truth.

To be quite honest with you all, THIS is the type of Wiz that I like to hear from time to time and it’s definitely interesting to hear him over “B.M.F.”-esque beats. I’ll probably have to favor “Homicide” probably because he falls back into that melodic flow. After the jump, check out the tracklisting.

Is this going to hold y’all Taylors over until Rolling Papers drops on March 29th??

Shouts to Young Khalifa for the liberation.
